The first gaming company to establish business in Dominica, Ma Pau Entertainment, will officially open its doors to the public today.

While the public has been patronizing the services offered by the company, the facility which is housed at the Krazy Kokonuts in Castle Comfort has not yet been officially opened.

Manager of Ma Pau Teleca Braithwaite said most of the employees are Dominicans.

“You can expect a lot from Ma Pau in the coming year and in the years to come. So far it has been greatly appreciated by the locals and also the tourists. It is a big difference because we never had something like that here before,” she said.

According to Braithwaite, the new initiative is expected to help boost the country’s tourism sector.

The gaming center will be officially opened at 5 o’clock today.

"you" = everyone (general terms), not you Brownsugar, but everyone.
It is speaking in the second person to anyone and everyone..........not attacking Brownsugar as the creator of the news. Therefore "you" would refer to anyone who condemn the gay cruise-ship yet support gambling.

e.g. the human race (men and women) is referred to as "Man" in the Bible. When you read the Bible do you get angry at the reference to women/men as "Man"? You can't and you shouldn't because its general speech.

@Brownsugar......I really do not have the time to explain what I mean when I speak in general term, so refresh on your English.......explanations take away the passion for me, by the time I have completed an explanation for every dam ting, my bitchi-ness is gone....if I have not consumed ounces of latte's then my next energy source is el bitchy, when I have used all of it with explanations, then I am lack lustre.....over the years I have come to realize that I needed either or both of these sources to survive communication on this board

Now that was funny. Why would a cruise passenger leave a cruise ship that has a casino that rivals most smaller casinos in Vegas, and come to Dominica and sit in front a slot machine or a cards table at Krazy Kokonuts?

Either this is just a front for something else, or they had better target a different clientele. My guess is, it's the former.

Will this "establishment" be housed in an area thats accessible to the tourist?
Are the tourist who visit Dominica the gambling type? Dominica is advertised as an eco-tourist destination, therefore would attract people who are into eco-tourism wouldn't it? If they were to visit Dominica they would engage in all the nature fun things and the rum of course, not things that are available in their own countries. Besides Antigua has a well established gambling market, so gamblers would go to the known gambling spots, not the unknown like Dominica.

Would a "duty zone" really protect Dominicans? in light of all things, it would seem that the patrons of these establishments would be Dominicans, I am sure who ever plan this would know that (but I doubt that)
are they going to amend the laws in Dominica? Because with gambling there expected 'side effects': loan sharks, prostitution etc
Does Dominica have counselling for gambling addicts?

There is the possibility of introducing gambling to Dominica, yet the pastors/priest/bishop are quiet......isn't that hypocrisy? campaign against one thing that condemned in the Bible, but silent about the other.....which one is better a liar of a thief?

Dominica is marketed as an eco-tourism destination, but the vast majority of tourists to Dominica are cruisers who spend a few hours on the island. Unless they show hard evidence that there is a tourist market waiting to utilize that facility, this establishment looks very suspicious to me.

I am convinced......Dominica is on a quest to sell self at any cost for the sake of "development".....to view Skeritt's oily grin as he shook the hands of the CEO of Maupau, with no implications to what he is unleashing on the uneducated gullible Dominicans, makes me sick to the stomach.....especially since just a few months ago, he and his henchmen profess to the world that Dominica is the Bible belt of the caribbean filled with "morals"

I don't think all gambling facilities are breeding ground for problems. They are various casinos in other islands that are nice for a fun night out. I have visited casinos with live music, dancing, dining, etc.

@cactus, what suspicion are you on about boss la? before this gaming company the sisserou hotel had slot machines for some time now Dominicans not going crazy over it and i doh see them going all crazy now! In fact most big gamblers in Dominica gamble with Dominoes not on slot machines... and what you say about the cruise ship having casino?

When the boat is in a port don't you know they close most of the facilities? they take that opportunity for maintainance work, if they love gambling they will visit Ma Pau..

I went on a cruise recently and when we reach Aruba i went to a casino house and i never went to the casino on the boat, for one it is very expensive.

I find you people to be extremely negative...
